Celia Paul
Venice has had a profound impact on the work of British artist Celia Paul. During a winter visit in 2015, Paul immersed herself in the city’s unique atmosphere, drawing inspiration from Venetian art, particularly Giorgione’s The Tempest, which she sent to a friend as a symbol of the connection between the city and her artistic vision.
This journey marked a turning point in her creative exploration, leading her to delve into themes of light, memory, and the boundary between reality and dream. Paul reinterpreted the legacy of the great Venetian masters, blending it with her modern visual language to create works that capture the intensity and mystery of the city.
The images accompanying this text resonate with Paul’s Venetian experience, capturing the poetry and complexity of a place that continues to inspire artists across generations.
